Truthfully, we created the Just In Case Kit for ourselves and it came about for a few different reasons.
Firstly, Carla lost her dad back in 2017 and the next few years were incredibly stressful as she and her mum had to go through all his paperwork (fondly known as “Dadmin”). Carla was often surprised at just how much there was to deal with even though he was organised and had already put a lot of things in place. We couldn’t help wondering how other families managed if their loved ones hadn’t been so organised!
Similarly, Sarah experienced the almost-death of her mum some years before and it was left to her to deal with things like paying the bills online while her mum recovered, because her tech-phobic dad had no idea about those kinds of things.
As business owners, we have a wide circle of creative business owner friends. We’ve seen too many examples of fellow business owners who have either died unexpectedly or disappeared offline for whatever reason, leaving family and friends wondering how to get in touch with clients (and clients wondering where their product or service has gone!).

Do I need a Google account to access this document?
You will need a Google account if you want to access the Google Sheet/Doc template. However, we have also included a link so you can download it as a PDF, too, which you can print and scribble all over.
Is the Just In Case Kit only for people who own businesses?
Not at all! We’ve created it with business owners in mind, but there are separate tabs for the business and personal sides of your life so you can use what’s relevant to your circumstances.
Will the information kept in this document be secure?
The security of your information is obviously very important to us, which is why we’d advise you don’t put any information in the document you’d be worried about losing or having stolen or hacked in any way. We do talk about this in the how-to video and we also share links for our favourite programs and websites where you can secure information securely.
Is it easy to update the information after I've filled it in?
With it being a spreadsheet/PDF, it’s relatively simple to go in and review and refresh any information any time you need/want to. We advise you to make a clean copy of the template, so you have a fresh copy if you need to start again at any time.
And, of course, it’s totally customisable. If you have specific-to-you information you need to track, you can add that in and take out anything not relevant to you. What’s important is that you start and this template gives you the starting point on which to save your important information. You know… just in case!
How will this template help me manage my business in an emergency?
Actually, it’s not for you at all! It’s for the person who will take over and manage things for you in your absence or, if the very worst should happen, it’ll help them find all the key information they need to inform anyone who needs to be informed and slowly close your business down (if that’s what’s needed).
Consider it to be the documented version of all the things you keep in your brain so that, if you’re not able to tell someone what they need to do, it’s already written down for them.
