Normal service is resumed this month and we’re back to our regular length episodes (you’ll be pleased to hear).

Better yet, this one is with a guest (our first this season!). We’re talking to the delightful Becky Benfield-Humberstone, a business coach with quite the varied experience under her belt!

In true Creative Reboot form, we really meander through a whole plethora of conversations in this one, hence the name of the episode (and you’ll have to listen to see why!). We’re super excited to introduce you to Becky and her world.

Meet Becky

Becky Benfield-Humberstone is mainly a business coach but in true multipod style is also a writer, artist, screenwriter, and more! She helps quietly rebellious founders and visionary solopreneurs to build the business they actually want – not the one they fell into, outgrew or which is secretly making them feel stuck.

She’s also the driving force behind her & Carla’s new joint networking venture Cahoots Club, and shares some magic about just starting… let’s go!

What we talk about

Three intense multipods on one call – this episode covered SO MUCH ground. Here’s a non-exhaustive little peek, but for the full magic you’ll have to listen in! We talked about:

Becky’s unconventional business journey from leaving school at 16. Model horses, the nichiest of niche businesses. Her journey since then which is proof there is no single blueprint to success.

Portfolio careers, job hopping, the diverse experience that comes with changing track often (or at all) and how scary it can be to shift. The changing attitudes towards generalists rather than specialists at work. Society’s expectations of a career and what it should look like (there’s that pesty should word again!). Adapting – from corporate to self employment and back again (or vice versa).

A focus on slow – building intentional businesses, an artisan approach, having and creating strong foundations, keeping away from hustle, rapid scaling and pushy sales tactics (ick). Mindset and confidence, action and starting before you’re ready.

How important it is to carve out your own creative time, how hard that can be, guilt & resistance around it, but also the massive positive impacts it has on client and other work. You’re allowed to prioritise yourself!

New ventures and projects, and how to just take the first step and see what happens. Burnout, pivoting and learning from experience (do any of us ever do that?!) and the importance of being honest with yourself. Not having regrets, and recognising you learn something from every job, project & step on your journey.

Multipod/polymath life and personal branding, and how to drill down to what people need to know about you amidst your stable of businesses, projects & pursuits. The much-underestimated skill of being able to take something you’ve learned in one area and apply it to something totally different.

And of course the answer to our question of what advice would Becky give to her younger self – you will have to listen in for that but it’s a great answer!
